UHE Syndicate Approves Major Academic and Policy Initiatives

The Syndicate of the University of Home Economics, Lahore, convened under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Higher Education and Pro-Chancellor, Rana Sikandar Hayat, to review key academic, administrative, and strategic matters of the institution.
During the meeting, the Syndicate granted formal approval for the implementation of the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Transnational Education Policy and the revised Sexual Harassment Policy 2024. These developments aim to strengthen the university’s capacity to foster international academic partnerships and ensure a safe, inclusive campus environment aligned with national standards.
Dr. Abbas Khan and Mr. Muhammad Ashfaq, both Assistant Professors, appointed as members of the Academic Council for a three-year term. The Syndicate also approved the establishment of the Rekhi Center for the Science of Happiness, an interdisciplinary initiative intended to promote research and well-being among students and faculty.
In addition, the Syndicate ratified amendments to the university’s semester regulations and endorsed the composition of the Board of Management for the Endowment Fund, enhancing institutional governance and financial oversight.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zaib-un-nisa Hussain presented a detailed report highlighting the university’s progress over the past three months, including key achievements and strategic plans for the upcoming quarter. Her leadership and initiatives were commended by Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who praised the university’s forward-looking vision under her stewardship.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission; Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, VC Punjab University; Members of the Provincial Assembly Motia Begum and Rukhsana Kausar; Shahid Mahmood, Dr. Umbreen Javed, Dr. Rukhsana David, additional secretary HED Zahida Azhar, and Umair Iqbal (Department of Law). Registrar Ms. Madiha Naz and Mr. Umar Javed, Finance Department also participated in the meeting.
The Syndicate further resolved to terminate the deputation of university officers currently posted elsewhere, directing their immediate return to the university to strengthen institutional capacity.
This meeting marks another step forward in the University of Home Economics’ mission to enhance academic excellence, global engagement, and institutional integrity.
