UHE Marks World Press Freedom Day with Media Awareness Session

The University of Home Economics (UHE) observed World Press Freedom Day through an engaging session organized by its Department of Media and Communication Studies.
Prominent media professionals Ms. Sania Chaudhry, senior journalist and TV anchor at Dunya News, and Mr. Umar Daraz Gondal, Bureau Chief of ABN News, were invited as guest speakers.
Mr. Gondal emphasized the importance of impartiality and fact-based journalism, highlighting the challenges journalists face in Pakistan’s evolving media landscape. He noted that in the digital era, information is widely accessible and difficult to suppress, making transparency even more essential.
Ms. Sania Chaudhry encouraged students to build digital media skills and plan their career pathways early. She also shed light on the gender-based obstacles women encounter in the journalism profession.
The students also participated in posters competition. Ms. Rida Fatima from department of Psychology(2024-2028) got 1st position and was awarded Rs. 6000 cash prize. Whereas, Ms. Zill-E-Huma from Media And Communication Studies Department (2024-2028) secured 2nd position and Aqsa Irshad from Media And Communication Studies Department
(2023-2027) secured 3rd position.
The session included a lively Q&A, providing students with practical insights and motivation to pursue ethical and impactful careers in media.
